Miia´s story

In Finland, in the city of Vantaa in 1992, Miia was ice-skating backwards and fell, hitting her chin and teeth on the ice. She lost some teeth and her lower lip was damaged as well. Miia had a beautiful smile before the school accident, but now her smile looks terrible. Many professors have speculated about what exactly happened in her mouth to cause these changes, but sufficient research was not done following the accident.

It is not only just a few broken teeth, it is much worse, and continues to get worse without proper treatment. Miia´s teeth are not in line and she has had much karies too after the accident. Miia has got also pus to one of her accident teeth. It is dangerous, because of it could potentially spread to the brain. A dentist said that the same can happen again, if they won´t do permanent teeth soon. Now it is been over 10 years since that day! Miia has still temporary plastic teeth.

The city of Vantaa didn´t have any insurance for school children, so they promised to give Miia a payment commitment after the accident, but they haven´t. Miia has received a strange e-mail from the city of Vantaa, where they said that Miia should pay for the treatments first out of pocket and then she could apply reimbursement from the city. This is not the payment commitment. The city of Vantaa must send Miia a written payment commitment and all treatments must be free for Miia. The city of Vantaa hasn´t paid all Miia´s accident treatment bills before.
